Machine Learning Scientist · Lilly TuneLab
Lucas is a machine learning scientist at Eli Lilly, where he develops molecular property prediction and generation models for Lilly TuneLab, a collaborative federated learning platform for drug discovery. He completed his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from MIT in 2026, where his thesis focused on the processing of solubility-enhancing drug nanoparticles and resulted in several manuscripts at the interface of nanotechnology, formulation, and cheminformatics. During his PhD, Lucas earned awards including the ACS CSSS Langmuir Graduate Award (2024), Controlled Release Society Merck Poster Award (2024), AIChE PD2M Student Award (2025), MIT Open Data Prize (2025), ACS CAS Future Leaders Award (2026), and was a Barry M. Goldwater Scholar in 2021. Lucas is an accomplished communicator with over a dozen award-winning research presentations and finds himself irresistibly drawn to the art of research storytelling as a way to engage interdisciplinary audiences.
